Managed IT services are IT functions that businesses outsource. They contract with vendors called managed IT services providers (or MSPs) to oversee and proactively manage some or all IT requirements.
This gives small businesses access to broader IT expertise and management skills than they could otherwise afford. Generally, this support is provided on an annual or monthly subscription basis.
As we mentioned in the first of this two-part managed IT services post, more than half of SMBs used a managed IT services provider in 2019. While another third of SMBs were considering a partnership, according to a 2019 CompTIA survey report.
In 2022, a JumpCloud survey revealed that 87.5% of SMBs either currently used an MSP or were considering partnering with one. Among those already in a partnership, 37.9% utilized MSPs to complement their internal IT teams with co-managed IT services, while 27.1% relied on MSPs to fully manage their IT infrastructure.
This data highlights the increasing reliance on MSPs to enhance IT capabilities, whether through full management or support for in-house teams.

Your managed IT services provider should help you create an overall tech strategy that will determine how to use each of the IT services in this article. This is often referred to as a virtual CIO offering.

This can show you whether your employees’ user IDs, passwords, and other data are for sale on the Dark Web. This can help you track down cybersecurity lapses and guide your employee training.

According to a Nationwide Insurance survey of SMB owners, more than 20% of cyber attack victims spent at least $50,000 and took longer than six months to recover.
